It didn't occur to me :-)

But yes I could. OTOH I'd have to use a proxy as well. And to configure the browsers to use it. Such a hassle ;-)

I rather hack at the sources. Nah, seriously. What are the issues, how can they be resolved and is there any chance for inclusion in 2.6?
