and exactly this is the major reason why I would prefer to go by car.

But there are others too:

- Depending on the bus you get it will be "a pain in the ass" in the truest
sense of the word, if you have to stay on those seats for 20 or more hours.

- The time needed for the trip will be much longer if you take all those
detours and stops into account, so I don't see why you should not be tired
when you arrive (especially those poor guys who will be boarding the bus in
Berlin)
I checked map24 and the estimated time for 1120km (Ddf, Ffm, Zrch, L2A) is
about 15h when you enter an average of 80km/h on highways since you are
driving in a bus.
The direct approach through france with your own car will be about 932km in
about 10h although I expect the swiss route to be faster even though its
50km more since you can speed down to Basel over the german highways,
without the french speed limit.

- If it's really dangerous to drive in L2A in winter I would prefer to do it
myself instead of having a bus driver trying it after a double shift of
about 20 hours.

- sharing a car with at least 3 persons will be much cheaper than the bus
fare.

- since you can cook your own food in the apartment it could be wise to have
a car available if you want to go to a supermarket in the next town

BTW: Ryanair offers cheap flights from London to Grenoble and they will fly
from almost any of their airports to London. (ie. you can start at Weeze
around 9:00 and arrive at Grenoble 4 hours later for less than 40 GBP) So
maybe this could be an option for EU citizens.

But I have to admit it could be fun to have a party bus going to L2A so
maybe I will change my mind until then ...
