Don't rely on Vaporware.

I truly believe in the works of Robert, Karsten, Sebastian and others, 
don't get me wrong *but* never wait for something you will not get your 
hands until a year.

AFAIK, a basic 5.0 system could possibly arrive at end of 2008... Most 
extensions will need to be partially rewritten and so on.

It's a bit like "I need a computer now but I've been told that next year 
there will be a better one...". If you need it, then start with what's 
available.

TYPO3 takes time to master. Five Zero is done by people knowing 4.x very 
well. They know what works and what is not so good about it so get 
yourself 4.x, learn the stuff and next year play with 5.0.

That would be my best suggestion.
