[Flow] Resource (image) thumbnials

For my application I have records with an image property. Everything works 
fine with it, but the images are large (they need to be large for epub 
exports). Because of this I want to display a smaller thumbnail version of 
the image on my site.

How do I go about doing this? Are there any examples anywhere on line?

Do I need to create a new proprety in my model and clone the image property 
and then resize it? Is there anything in flow that will resize an image 
resource?

Do I need to even do this? If I use fluid to create the tags with a smaller 
size would a  smaller version of the image be created and cached?
