[FLOW3-general] Question about FLOW Distribution tagging strategy

Apologies in advance if I'm missing something obvious.

With TYPO3, when we need to update the typo3_src folder, we often just 
checkout the version we want by tag. Eg:

git checkout TYPO3-4.6.3

However, when trying to clone the FLOW3 1.0.1 release, it doesn't seem 
to work as expected. After cloning the Base distribution repository, 
checking out the FLOW3-1.0.1 tag and updating all submodules, FLOW3 
doesn't seem to want to work. Is it wrong to think that the distribution 
would be stable at that tag?
