Check out Doctrine. There is a feature for "reverse engeneering" of the 
database i.e. you'll get a valid definition based on the database.

You can use that and correct it e.g. to define MM-relations or similar 
that is not obvious in the scheme.

Then you use that for the definition of your domain models.
