If both databases are MySQL you can set up a table with the FEDERATED 
table engine to access the other database (more or less a workaround).

Of course it would be very useful to have such a feature in FLOW3. It 
would also be a good thing if it would support mixed db backends (e.g. 
with FLOW3 using SQLite and the other application using Postgres) just 
like DBAL can do for v.4
