[FLOW3-general] Problem with understanding the idea

Hi List,
  I have a small problem with understanding the idea of FLOW3.As a TYPO3 
user I see FLOW3 as a framework ONLY for TYPO3 and I mean by that a base 
of core TYPO3, a base of TYPO3 extensions. But then I think "wait a 
second. This is a "framework". Shouldn`t it be standalone?" And now the 
question. Can I (or maybe will I be able) to use FLOW3 as a normal php 
framework that will allow me to create an application not related with 
TYPO3 ? Watching on extbase most functions are related with TYPO3. Where 
I`m wrong with my thinking process ? Please give me a hint.
