INSTALLATION GUIDELINES - TYPO3
===============================
Now that your web server is ready, you can install TYPO3...
<snip>
3 - If you are using Linux, or windows with an NTFS file system, ensure
the following files & folders are writable by the server.../typo3temp,
/typo3/temp, /typo3conf/localconf.php (chmod 755 or 777 on Linux)

Windows-specific information:

Give the following catalogs change permission for user
IUSR_<machinename>(write,
read, execute etc permission).
- fileadmin
- fileadmin/_temp/
- typo3temp
- typo3conf
- typo3conf/ext/
- typo3/ext/
- uploads/pics/
- uploads/media/
- uploads/tf/
The rest only needs read and execute (maybe read is enough)
Also:
In order for Typo3 to use the PHP function that uses the Windows shell
(usually CMD.EXE) to call the Imagemagick executables, you need to give
the IUSR_MachineName account Read and Execute permissions on CMD.EXE --
possibly your NETWORK account as well -- and be aware that there is
often a Web Anonymous Users security group which is explicity denied
permission on CMD.EXE. You will need to clear the deny permission for
this group or move IUSR_MachineName out of the group (typically IUSR_ is
the only account in the group).
*******************END CORRECTION/SUGGESTION #1*******************
4 - If you are setting up TYPO3 from anywhere other than on the server
itself (where you can use http://127.0.0.1 as the address), open
/typo3/install/index.php in your text editor and comment out lines 40 &
41 (adding /* at the beginning of the blank line before line 40, and
*/ on the blank line after line 41)
*******************START CORRECTION/SUGGESTION #2*******************
Several web editors do not report line numbers as referenced above,
but this instruction refers to the -die line and you only need two
slashes in front of it to
comment it out:
//if (!@is_dir(PATH_typo3conf)) die
Once the "Basic Configuration" report on the Install Tool shows that
things are working
properly you can come back and delete the // to activate this line.
NOTE -- the purpose of this line of code deserves a few words...
it might be better to ship this commented out with a note to uncomment
it after getting configured.
*******************END CORRECTION/SUGGESTION #2*******************
5 - Open your web browser and hit http://[your.site.name] or
http://127.0.0.1. You'll
initially see an error message page, but will be immediately re-directed
to the 1-2-3 Install Tool
