[Typo3-UG UK] Modern Template Building concept confusion

Hi

I'm a new user and I could really use some help. I'm trying to use the Page 
Template Selector extension which I've downloaded from the extension 
repository on the typo3.org site.

I've created 5 templates (html, graphics, and css). I've set up menu, path 
and content areas (<div id="content">). I'd like to dynamically write 
content into these areas.

I can assign the template, but I'm having problems generating menus and 
content.

I've three questions
1. Do I need to create an ext: menu template to write the path and menu?
2. If so, where do I put ext:menu?
3. Can I just edit the main set field and do all the template addressing in 
the root of the site? (as in the Modern Template 1 tutorial)
