[TYPO3-translators] problems checking and syncing translations from repository

For several weeks now, I have problems with synchronizing translations
from the repository or getting the status of translations.

If I do "Check status against repository" I get a "N/A" for each
extension key (regardless of the selected language. I've tried greek and
german).

If I do an "Update from repository" I get a "Could not fetch translation
status" for each extension key.

I have typo3 4.1.10 on php 5.1

Is there anyone else experiencing the same issue?
