Tagpack could be an option.
It offers tags, fulltext search and date filtering and it can use other filters (i.e news categories) as well.
It's not highly specialised on top notch performance with millions of entries and huge amounts of text, but the TER is almost lightweight compared to cases where tagpack is already in use.

Multilanguage tags are on my to do list anyway, so if anyone is interested ...
