I'm not a big friend of such sombols for the following reason:

Symbols are used in many different contexts and have total different 
meanings, especially in cultural context.
Think of an eye as symbol, this could reflect total different 
associativities:

* "look" - but where?
* "view" - but how?
* "someone is looking to me" - how i look?
* "it's a god" - howly cow
* "open eye" - let' examine
* "something magic" - did i collect enough items?
a.s.o.

Don't wonder if someone feels confused. Now give him 10 such symbols :D
