Now you can. I call it a default startpage, because that is how it is like.
You can also define a backend shortcut or a new records links as startpage.

So if what you usually do when you login, is to publish some news - then 
you could define the startpage to be the New Record link for news. So 
when you login, the news record is ready to be filled in.
