I think it recapitulate what few people already said:

1- Hide advanced stuff
2- Provide a way to get advanced stuff for power users.

Kasper already did some work around this when he placed the "Show 
secondary options (palettes)". We just need to go further and maybe 
provide some popular prefs like HTMLarea does with its "Default 
configuration settings": Typical, Minimal, Demo/Show-off.

And thinking about this, we're back to the infamous "Roles"...

Anyway, just read the article to refresh what you already know. ;)
