I don't see where this shouldn't work. php4 code and thus all versions 
of TYPO3 and all extensions run on php5. It just doesn't work the other 
way around. New extensions depending on php5 features will not work with 
php4. Extension developers are just enabled to use php5, at last!

I'm so much looking forward to use iterators and what not of the cool 
new features without having to ask the customer whether they use php5 
already.

In fact there're already extensions in TER which will force you to use php5!

I do not want to force you to use php5 in your development, but we need 
to force the hosters to finally switch to php5 to in return enable our 
selfs to write better code.

I don't see why we as developers don't want to use these cool new 
features, I just don't get it.
