Hi Daniel,

that might work well for 'special' extensions - but for extension of
general interest there should be team/association-provided extensions.
Take for example a calendar or a image gallery. There are numerous
crappy galleries in TER as well as calendars and many other stuff. With
"cal" there is finally a team-based extension that will replace all
currently available calendars in TER some time. Same has to be done with
other common "needs", like:

- gallery/file-system-frontend (MVC-style with filesystem based records,
DAM records, lightbox, maybe rendering-services for filetypes and
file-sources...)
- news-system (tt_news seems to be frozen and has a bad design anyway)
- faq (elmar started already one - thanks)
- guestbook / commenting-system
- forum (mm_forum seems to go the right way - hopefully)
- community-features (private messaging, buddy-lists,...)
- polls
- ratings
- ...

and all those extensions should be designed in a way to be able to
connect them to each other seamlessly (maybe with pure TS, hooks, services):
- add easily comments to gallery-entries, news articles, faqs
- add ratings to news, gallery-entries, news, faqs, forum posts
- build polls based on different sources, f.e. with gallery-records
- add poll-capabilities to the forum or whatever based on the same
functinality
- extend community-features and add them to the forum, gallery,...

That's the way it should work in my eyes - and that's one thing I really
really miss/dislike in TYPO3.
