OK. Thanks for your inputs here. But I want to focus back on the initial 
patch for the 1.0 branch.

so, +1 for the patch if you use
if (strpos() !== false)
which is faster than strstr.

Please go ahead and commit once we have one more +1, so we can wrap up 
the 1.0 branch :)
