Why should we add "nofollow"?

When googlebot arrives at a login page it should not index it, 
absolutely true! But why should it not follow further links? This will 
cost typo3.com a lot of  backlinks! And it prevents indexing pages that 
are linked from the login news. Ok, the login page is not a key spot in 
SEO, but I see no reason for "nofollow".
