We won't drop it in 4.2.

This particular issue is about TYPO3 v4.3, where requirement was rised
to PHP 5.2. Should not concearn you, yet. Will be of course another
topic once 4.4 is released, as 4.2 will become "obsolet".

That is the goal and not far away from making it possible (again). Just
waiting for one more core developer review and a +1.

You can follow the list through a news reader (e.g. in Thunderbird),
just add lists.typo3.org as a news group and add typo3.teams.core group.
