that's what i meant with API. If extension use skinningAPI (the old one) 
it's ok and referenced correct. If they direct use a hardcoded url, 
htaccess rule could be used for rewrite.

i mean this kind of calls:
t3lib_iconWorks::skinImg(....)
API can replace the path.
