There are several parameters in the install toll for sessions lifetime

BE : 
[BE][sessionTimeout]


FE:
[FE][lifetime]
[FE][sessionDataLifetime]
[permalogin]

Hi Jan,
fi think the simplest way is to request an page via ajax in regular intervalls. like every 2 minutes. this should keep the users session alive at least for fe users.
