[TYPO3-mvc] Mapping various Objects to a Domain Model

I've just found Tx_Extbase_Property_TypeConverter_AbstractTypeConverter
which enables me to register own, custom type converters, so I'm 
wondering where this type conversions take place inside Extbase, but 
this could be a solution.

Probably I could register my own type converter and call it
directly where I need it?
