As Peter, I'd suggest the pragmatic approach here: Setting the value to 
a sufficient high enough number (If you use validator annotations you 
usually know the highest possible number anyways).

Apart from that I'm also fine with 0 = disable cropping. But - as the 
view helper is just a wrapper for the respective cObject function - this 
functionality should be implemented in the core IMO.
