If the property mapper sets the value when fetching the recod but sets NULL instead of the proper ObjectStorage<ModelObjct>type then this would happen regardless of the constructor statement...

I would check for typos in variable, parameter or annotation names. Then perhaps dump the value given to the setter which sets your objectStorage property (suspecting it might be NULL).
