We're working with Typo3 version 4.7.4 and the tt_news version is 3.4.0 -
also, I won't really be able to update any of it since the system is
running okay with just a few glitches and bugs (mainly concerning the
extensions). And my boss does not want us to upset the halfway steady
balance we've accomplished for our customer...

> Jamie,
> 1. Are you trying to remove a category from a single news post?
> You do this by opening the post to edit it and then click the
> categories tab. On the categories tab select the category you want to
> remove from the left box and then click the 'x' button. You should see
> it disappear. then click 'save' or 'save and close' at the top.

> 2. or from the list of available categories?
> To do this you need to know where the list of categories is stored in
> TYPO3. Use the list view from the Web menu and start with the general
> system folder and check the root folder of the new section. Once you
> find the listing of news categories you can click the icon next to the
> category name you wish to delete and from the pop-up context menu click
> delete. The page will refresh and the category should be gone.
>
> If you do not have the proper access rights/privileges to remove a news
> category you will have to ask the TYPO3 admin to do it for you or change
> your privileges to allow you to manage the categories.

Next I would need to know the version of TYPO3 and tt_news you are
working with.
