I guess someone will do an update of tt_news so that it runs on 6.x but
not more. So if there are real bugs in tt_news, I doubt someone cares
fixing those. Codebase is also not quite old, ...

Depends on some more things, like if you don't like extbase or fluid,
you got a problem with news but also with all new extensions

I am not sure which features you really miss? Please tell me.

Many things are included in ext:news which are possible in tt_news with
3rd party extensions like using content elements in the news record.

If you explain the features you need, maybe someone (maybe even me)
include those in the ext itself or in 3rd party extensions relying on
ext:news

All I can tell you: I really care for ext:news currently and do quite a
lot for it. E.g.
