[TYPO3-rte] No breaking spaces suddenly appearing

Hi,
I updated a site from TYPO3 4.5 to TYPO3 which implied (I believe) an
update of the RTE from 2.1.7 to 2.2.1. Now, the editors complain that
suddenly the RTE converts lots of spaces to no breaking spaces even
though I have not made any changes to the configuration.

Was there any change to defaults which I need to address in the
configuration or is this a bug?
