[TYPO3-rte] htmlarea RTE 1.8.8 problems

After spending few hours on discovering what *** is going on in this 1.8.8 
ver. of htmlarea it seems i figured it out. If i have some text ie.:

This is some simple text.

and i want to make some formating of the word 'simple' i have to select the 
word and apply for example bold. Now comes totally unstandard part. If i 
want to apply ie. font size on the same word i MUST NOT select it. Otherwise 
the garbage in html code is produced. The only thing i have to do is to 
position cursor on the end of that word. I repeat, this is not standard in 
any text editor and users will have big problems with this. Is there 
alternative to this? Is there a way to make version 1.8.8. act as 1.7.12 ? 
Is there a way to install 1.7.12 in Typo3 4.3.2 ? Thx!
