[TYPO3-RTE] search & replace leaves spans in text

Hi,
when I do a search & replace in the RTE, all occurrences of the
searched and replaced string will be enclosed in <span>s (with an
id=frmark_?). I assume that they are used to put a style on the found
occurrences but I don't understand why they actually get saved. Is this
a bug or do I just have to modify my configuration?
