[TYPO3-RTE] Download icons depending on filesuffix

Is it possible to make rte inserting an icon on download links depending on 
file format of the downloadable file suffix ?
Like inserting a PDF-ikon, when the downloadable file is a PDF-file, while 
insert a Word icon if the file is a Word file or perhaps an Open Office icon 
if the file is a Open Office file and so on.
