[TYPO3-RTE] Adding to /res/typical/pagetTSconfig.txt

Hi I've been trying to add a class to :
RTE.default.proc.allowedClasses
and
RTE.default.classesCharacter
directly in typical/pageTSconfig.txt And it shows up when I look in INFO 
but it doesn't get shown in the editor. any ideas as what can be done?

Is it possible to add to contentCSS so that both the default css and 
contentCSS is used ?
