[TYPO3-RTE] Internal vs External links

Hi!
I have searched them all: Google, HTMLarea manual, this list, Typo3 Wiki, 
.... tried a few tips... no luck... such a newbie :-)

How do I configure Typo3 to do the obvious in HTMLArea:
Internal links open by default in the same window (_top)
External links open by default in a new window (_blank)

Is there a reason why this isn´t the default setting?
