Search (filterform)

I have a little problem with the search. I would like to filter the properties by countries.
Is it possible to adapt the search?
Of course, I've already seen the source code and trying to change.
I had changed the class.tx_realty_filterForm.php and the html-template I have also added a placeholder.
But something prevented the possibility to select and activate my country-filter in the backend by the flexform.
Does anyone have any idea what I have forgotten?
