I had the same problem. Here is the solution :
     <renderlet:PASSTHRU name="tstamp">
       <data>
         <value>CURRENT_TIMESTAMP</value>
       </data>
     </renderlet:PASSTHRU>

     <renderlet:HIDDEN name="crdate">
       <data>
         <defaultvalue>CURRENT_TIMESTAMP</defaultvalue>
       </data>
     </renderlet:HIDDEN>
