I agree, and that is just why I posted my email. Before I start
writing, I want to know the goal. In this case I would like to
know what different documents there should be and what their
subject should be.
And my suggestion for TYPO3 is many smaller documents rather
than a few very big ones. And that we devide the documents into
some distinct categories.
I also think that every category should have at least one
"Basic" document for the average user/subject and then one or
more specialised document for specialised things. (See the
structure suggestion in my first email)

Yes, before we _write_ anything. But we can start planning the
structure and what document we would like to have (the goal)! It
looks like now is a very good time to plan and when the book
comes we just can start writing!
I like writing, but I like planning even more! :-)

What do you mean by an _overall_ install doc? One huge document
covering all aspects of installation and upgrading? Or do we
agree on many smaller documents
