[TYPO3-dam] no thumbnails if picture is not a very small icon

hello

in my DAM installation
(all extensions are the newest, and TYPO3 also)
i see ONLY Thumbnails from very small Pictures (icons)
from normal pictures there is no thumbnail shown

any ideeas ???
