What kind of approach? I'm not sure if its realy similar.

dam_frontend is only focusing on files as assets, lik the whole dam.  
Its possible to work with categories and you can assign rights to the  
files. I've not tested it yet, but it looks quite nice.

But the filemanager has a different approach: It looks on the "file- 
system", including directories. So it adds a new table to index  
directories too. This allows to implement this web-filemanager  
functionality, including access-rights and using fe_users and fe_groups.

Yea, thank you. I didn't really recognice dam_frontend in the  
beginning, because it wasn't what I wanted. But it contains some  
functionality I want to include in the filemanager in the future.
