[TYPO3-dam] How to create a new File?

I've read the thread following
http://lists.netfielders.de/pipermail/typo3-project-dam/2006-April/000249.html
which doesnt give an answer.

I want to import image files into DAM, so that they
can be displayed in the frontend. What table rows do I
have to add to make this happen? Currently I try:

- tx_dam (filename, mime type)
- tx_dam_mm_ref
- set tt_content.tx_damttcontent_files to 1

This does some stuff, but the files appear neither in
the DAM window, nor in the Frontend.
