Most people that need a real documents/asset management need versioning
and workflow functionality, like that we already have with "normal"
TYPO3 4.0 records. If we had this, TYPO3 could be used as a tool to keep
documents in environments where certain quality standards are enforced
(ISO 9001, etc). And having this in a CMS framework is even cooler, as
you could publish these documents in a very easy fashion (using
filelinks or other DAM-specific FE-Plugins).

I think roll-back isn't the most important use-case here, but archiving
and have a way to control who did what when (like in CVS). This is
needed for documents too, not only for TYPO3 records.

I could not find the "document management extension", do you have any
link to that?
