[TYPO3-dam] 3.8 compatibility

Hey René,

did you think of TYPO3 3.8 compatibility? Until now I only found two 
places where you used functions from 4.0, after I checked them I 
commented these places and it still works fine as far as I can see.

How about just adding an if($version >= xxx) around these calls?

The thing is that there're still a lot of 3.8 installations out there 
which for several reasons can not get updated easily...
