As I see from http://www.sil.at/partner/, it does care for different 
menu states like IFSUB etc. - right?

+1. And it caters for Ben's request to have the styles written to an 
external stylesheet.

That would be wonderful!

Let's make a first summary of where we want to go featurewise.
The GTMENU should:

- use a normal GMENU,

- <img> tags etc. are dropped during rendering and instead css styles 
get written to an external stylesheet

- JS can be used to preload the images (prevents flickering on hover), 
but usage is configurable by a flag

- cater for all menu states (RO, NO, IFSUB)

All this has already been achieved but needs to be put together. What 
makes sense? Just a complete userfunction or some GTMENU extension?
