This example includes the option split feature giving you the 
possibility of having different styles for a first menuitem, a last 
menuitem and the middle menuitems (e.g. border-top or border-bottom 
depending on the position in the menu). This can be only done if the 
<li> and / or <a> depending on the position in the menu has it´s own 
class. Of course, you can throw away all these classes if you don´t need 
option split.

I think it is a good idea to add this hint to the example, just done.
