What exactly does it do? I have the impression that it simply uses 
entities, which is no protection at all.

As for using (at) or [at], well, better than nothing but I doubt that it 
makes troubles for newer harvesters

PS: There is an undocumented feature that gets you user(at)some(dot)domain.
