[TYPO3-commerce] error: There is no entry in the $TCA array for the table ""

I have most of the commerce package operational it seems
- the sale process works for payment types invoice, prepayment and 
cashondelivery - however selecting creditcard gives me the following error;

There is no entry in the $TCA array for the table "". This means that 
the function enableFields() is called with an invalid table name as 
argument.

The typo3 log shows;

Any pointers toward resolving this would be appreciated.
Typo3 version is 4.5.16 - commerce version is 12.7
