[TYPO3-commerce] New product and highlighted product

Hello, we are develeping a web site with the commerce extension. In this 
web we have a categories navigation menu in which we have subcategories. 
Now we can navigate through the menu and we see a listing of products, 
if there are, each time we click on a category. We need also to put a 
list of highlighted products and new products of the selected category 
and subcategories beneath, we are trying to do that wiht top products 
but we think this is not the way. Is there a way to do it? or we have to 
add fields to the products and later touch the code to get this products?
