[TYPO3-commerce] Product, Articles, Attributes for this Shop Example

Hi,

I've got Commerce running. Sort of.
But I'm still confused about how things work, so for example I can see 
attributes in FE but cannot select them, which makes me think there are 
still some essentials I don't understand.

Let me tell you how the shop should run and hopefully you can tell me 
what's wrong with my thinking and what I have to do.

It's about furniture.
There are three kinds: stools, benches, tables.
Each has different models, eg. three different stools: type a, b and c.
There should be a list of wood types you can select from eg ten 
different kinds and !! you should be able to select more than one.

The procedure:
1st page: you see tables, benches, stools -> lets klick on stools
2nd page: you see type a, type b, type c -> lets klick on type b
3rd page: you see type b and a list of wood types -> you select one or 
more wood types and klick to put the specific stool into your basket

or even better:
There are only 2 pages. On the second page you see the 3 different types 
of stools and the list of wood types. You select one stool and one or 
more wood types and but the stool into you basket.

Who can I put that into effect?
