Sorry, I had a look at the code again and the following has to be true 
in order to render the more link:

view.event.isPreview = 1
piVar preview = 1

If you want to have a more link without the preview enabled, you could 
add <!-- ###EVENT_LINK### start -->###MORE_LABEL###<!-- ###EVENT_LINK### 
end -->
