[TYPO3-calendar] startdate_insert

Hi,
having trouble with

startdate_insert

as soon as I want to format it with

strftime = %a, %d.%m.%Y

i get unix birthday -->  21.08.1970

any ideas why that could be?
and yes I need a different format for startdate_insert other than the 
normal startdate.
