Be careful. The versioning features are the basis of the workspace
features. Don't mix them up.

The internals are built into TYPO3 (TCAmain et al) and cannnot be removed.

The current versioning sysext provides the UI for the basis versioning
(have a look at pre-WS versions of TYPO3). They are not great but I
think it'd be better to create a "ws" extension which contains the UI
for the workspaces and depends on "versioning".
